The difference is that this guy is an elected representative to the US Senate.
The theocrats are making the US politics into a freak show. They have abandoned conservativism (especially fiscal), launched a pre-emptive war, and now wage war with science and education.

I have to admit, your comparison of the Bush Theocrats to the Iranian counterparts is surprisingly apt.
Both routinely practice torture
Both were involved in wars with Iraq (though I believe Iraq attacked Iran, but I might be wrong)
Both despise science and modernity
etc.
Maybe Iran attacked Iraq pre-emptively so as to deal with the fact that they might have or be making weapons of mass destruction. I know Israel did, but that was back in the 80s.
Incidently, have you seen Dukes of Hazzard? Best line has got to be "You're so stupid, you couldn't fix an election if your brother was the governor."

I'll have to check my history on who launched the Iran/Iraq war - though it clearly isn't a vital point of any argument, I just can't stand not knowing off the top of my head.
'Dukes of Hazzard' - uh, no, I haven't seen it. Not likely to either. I have Dario Argento's latest 'Card Player', the Neon Genesis 'Evangelion' anime, 'Kyu' a vampire anime, and several excellent Euro-porn titles to watch first. Indeed, there are likely a thousand ways I would prefer to spend my time than with the boys from Hazzard county.
Might I reccomend you check out on video;
'Code-46'
'Primer'
'Pi'
or any of the Werner Herzog/Klaus Kinski collection? They will actually feed your brain rather than destroy it.
