Stolen Elections

I have to admit, I'm a bit torn on this. On the one hand I think the Bush junta did fix the Florida count in 2000, but I am a little more doubtful that the tactics in Ohio in 2004 cost Kerry the election.

Mr. Krugman here tallies up some of the discrepancies and while I think it does point to a concerted effort to undermine the Dems, I don't know that he has a smoking gun.

He is right though, the Republicans will definitely try to do it again.

Watching the first election in 2000 I was particularly struck by one moment in the televised commentary. It appeared as if Florida was going Democrat, and when asked about his feelings on this, likely because his brother was/is governor of Florida, Bush very firmly said he wasn't willing to cede Florida yet. Something about the way he said it just set up my hackles, like he KNEW he wasn't going to lose that state.
